About Us
The Location
Tucked in the Bitterroot Valley off iconic Lost Horse Road, Heartwood is a nature-based yurt co-op located on our 20 acre homestead. We have lots of chickens, dogs, and eventually-sheep! We have a large garden, forest and Lost Horse Creek behind us.

Our Story
Heartwood was born from deep love for childhood, nature, and desire to create meaningful community. Founded by Ashley, a homeschool mom of three, Heartwood is the fulfillment of a long-held dream: to build a learning space that feels like home while honoring the rhythms of the natural world.
With a background in early childhood education, Montessori, Forest School, and Reggio Emilia Philosophies, Ashley brings a rich, child-centered perspective to the classroom. Her approach is rooted in curiosity, connection and belief that children thrive when given freedom to explore, play and learn at their own pace-especially when surrounded by nature.
As both an educator and a parent, Ashley longed for a co-op style experience that supported homeschool families, where learning could unfold gently, joyfully, and in community– with no rush to grow up too fast. Heartwood is that vision brought to life: a space where childhood is preserved, parents feel connected, and each family feels seen and supported.
Here, muddy boots, handmade bread, and stories under the trees are part of the daily rhythm. Whether we’re baking, exploring the forest, or simply sharing lunch together, Heartwood is a place where learning feels like belonging.
