Elementary Lead Teacher + Morning Assistant Opportunity
(Project-Based + Montessori-Inspired)
Heartwood Schoolhouse is a small, nature-based homeschool program held in a cozy yurt homestead setting. We are seeking a warm, capable, and self-directed educator to lead our elementary program (1st-4th grade), with the option to add hours assisting in our morning kindergarten class. The Elementary enrichment program is focused on History/Science/Home ec.
Position Overview
This role has two parts:
Elementary Lead Teacher (Primary Role)
You will serve as the lead guide for a small mixed-age group (ages 6–10), designing and leading a thoughtful, engaging program:

Montessori-inspired principles

Hands-on, real-world experiences

Multi-level, mixed-age support
This is not a traditional classroom. We value curiosity, rhythm, and meaningful work over rigid curriculum.
Optional: Kindergarten Assistant (Morning)
For candidates seeking additional hours, there is an opportunity to assist in a gentle, play-based kindergarten program (ages 4–6).
Responsibilities include:

Supporting transitions and activities

Assisting children as needed

Helping maintain a calm, nurturing environment
Schedule
The programs runs 6 weeks on and 2 weeks off starting in September
Elementary Program (Required):

Tuesdays & Thursdays

1:00–4:15 PM
Kindergarten Assistant (Optional):

Tuesdays & Thursdays
-
8:45 AM–12:30 PM
Compensation
Elementary Lead Teacher:
-
$1,500 flat rate per 6-week session
-
Includes all planning and instruction time
-
No additional hourly planning pay
Kindergarten Assistant (Optional):
-
$18–$22/hour depending on experience
**Flexibility in pay if a parent would like to bring their child etc**
Responsibilities (Elementary Lead)

Plan and lead a 2-day/week program for mixed ages (6–10)

Support foundational skills (reading, writing, math support)
-
Design engaging units in science and history
-
Incorporate project-based and hands-on learning

Adapt activities for multiple levels within one group

Create a calm, respectful, and connected classroom culture
Ideal Candidate

Experience with teaching, homeschooling, or microschool environments
-
Familiarity with Montessori, Waldorf, Charlotte Mason or alternative education approaches

Passionate about teaching Science, History, Home ec in a meaningful way

Comfortable leading a mixed-age group independently

Creative, Organized, and Self Motivated
